The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships this year.
Competitors are granted the ability to contest specific decisions made by the chair umpire, following the protocol already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a player can request.
Case in Point
An illustrative case occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system in place at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
