The speculation around The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
